Sun. Mar. 20th 2011 Abita Springs Earthfest

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,
 since August 2006

Last night was a bit cooler, nice for sleeping. But when we got up the resort was covered in a morning fog at least until the sun  came up. Looking across one of the ponds gives an eerie feeling.

We had our morning coffees and computed, and had Bert visit this morning, yesterday it was Maggie, both dogs belong to Jon and Angelo. Suzie now has a pretty good dog fix, with three dogs to play with.

About 10:00 the six of us we went to the clubhouse for breakfast. Bacon or sausage, eggs, hash browns, biscuit, juice and coffee for only $3.00. Suzie and I walked to the clubhouse, Ron chauffeured the old folks in his golf cart.

The entrance for the clubhouse is nicely set up with bright colorful flower beds on a beautiful sunny day.

Who Dat?
We have seen this sign many places in the New Orleans area and wondered what it represented. I checked it out and now I know and will pass it onto you, it is part of a chant of support for the New Orleans Saints Football team.   Click Who Dat?  for the link if you like.
Earthfest
After a nice breakfast 6 ( plus Rufus, Ron and May's dog) of us piled into Jon's truck and we are off to Abita Springs. Road construction, so a detour took us the long way, but a nice scenic route. Today is their 3rd annual Earthfest . It takes place at the Trailhead museum for the Tammany Trace Rail Trail an excellent scenic walking/ bicycle trail in St. Tammy Parish.

The weather was perfect, for strolling about this beautiful area in downtown Abita Springs (population 2,000). Vendors selling or giving away plants and various other items of interest. A huge well designed children's playground, with interesting forts, slides and swings. There was even a large splash pad for the children to run thru and cool down on this very hot day, Various bands played thru out the day, a display of miniature horses was nice and a man doing chain saw carvings from logs that were set up, very interesting. We even ran into a couple from Galvin Bay Resort in Ontario (one of our home parks) Emile and his wife Monique, we had a surprize birthday party for him  last September. They are camping at our resort and he has played cards with Jon in the clubhouse. What a very small world.

Now with all this walking, fresh air and exercise back to the resort its now time for happy hour, so Angelo makes the Margaritas and we have a few snacks, once again solving more problems of the world. Then about 6 pm Jon fires up the Barbie and cooks up some tasty burgers and hot dogs (Coney Dogs) and regular dogs. Along with all the toppings, chips and baked beans, and excellent traditional camping dinner.

After this chat a bit more then before we know it, its after 8:00 pm getting dark and chilly so home we go with a borrowed animated movie "Up" which we enjoyed very much, its worth a look if you have a chance.
